Responsibilities

The primary purposes of this role are :

  • To execute the global Air Freight product and trade lane management / procurement strategies at Country level
  • To execute the global Air Freight standards & guidelines at Country level
  • Fulfill and exceed customer expectations by providing the highest possible service quality to the customers
  • Optimize the transaction, Increase sales and manage costs optimally.
  • Responsible for strong growth within the BU and maximal utilization of business potential
  • Continuously strive for high productivity, competitive efficiency and best quality
  • Each BU will continuously strive for maximum productivity to assume
  • Fully adhere to all defined global processes, policies and standards and to local law
  • Drive QHSE within the organization, ensuring a continuous improvement of the QHSE management system with a special focus on :
  • The adherence to the global incident handling standards and the registration of incidents in the incident handling tool
  • The adherence to the global corrective and preventive action standards as well as being actively involved in the root cause analysis and agreement of corrective and preventive actions for severe and reoccurring incidents, audit findings, KPI deviations etc.
  • No major CAR-s from external audits against ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 are raised.
  • The continual reduction of health, safety & environmental incidents and accidents
  • BU Manager Responsibility

  • Responsible for the financial results and the continuous supervision of the financial status, including activities in the field of accounting, financial controlling and strategic planning;
  • Prepare the local budget including the investment program, together with detailed documentation according to the instructions issued by Corporate Controlling;
  • Develop and expand customer relationships;
  • Implement the Internal Control System (ICS) and all processes included in the Internal Management System (IMS);
  • Responsible for the standardization of processes, structures and systems according to corporate decisions;
  • Arrange and continuously optimize organizational structures, including internal service providers, shared service and competence centers;
  • Responsible for the supervision of personnel matters, with particular emphasis on staff training and career planning in cooperation with local HR;
  • Ensure the adherence to instructions, policies and guidelines defined by Global Process Owners and corporate functions;
  • Ensure the adherence to the Panalpina Code of Conduct;
  • Inform him / herself about all applicable local and international laws, regulations, and legal obligations and of ensuring compliance;
  • Ensure a regular and consistent information flow to the Country Management about all important matters.
  • Trade Lane Management & Procurement

  • Responsible that the capacity and procurement strategy in the Country, as well as its execution, is in line with the global product and trade lane strategy;
  • Set up the capacity planning (allotments, BSA, consolidation share) based on the carrier strategy, the trade lane plans and guidelines received from Regional Air Freight;
  • Responsible for Capacity Management / Optimization, i.e.
  • Allotment optimization,
  • Local alignment with TLDs to get best cargo mix,
  • Ad-hoc capacity buy, in order to optimize cost of sale;
  • Track Country procurement execution against plan with respect to volumes and carriers and initiate and track corrective actions as required, as directed by Corporate Air Freight Trade Lane Management;
  • Develop, drive and monitor corrective actions in case of deviations of actual Air Freight Product performance against plan;
  • Negotiate / sign capacity deals on Country level - in line with corporate guidelines - and keep the respective Trade Lane Manager informed;
  • Ensure the management of capacity agreements in the respective systems;
  • Provide input to the Regional Head of Air Freight Trade Lane Management & Procurement on pricing analysis and support resolution of Country concerns (e.
  • g. capacity management / better pricing / selection of carriers);
  • Challenge and validate the proposed MSRs from the Country TLDs for assigned trade lanes;
  • Decide on spot rates for new business opportunities;
  • Ensure up-to-date and confirmed selling rates in the central rate repository;
  • Ensure that carrier buying rates are made available and maintained in the Rate Portal;
  • Set KPI and incentive framework to be applied in the Country for specific SLAs with carriers, in alignment with the Global Head of Tradelane Management & Procurement Air Freight;
  • Monitor, control and consolidate performance feedback for regional review meetings;
  • Hold local incentive agreements negotiations - but only in alignment and with approval from Global Air Freight Trade Lane Management & Procurement;
  • Liaise with Global Own Controlled Product & Procurement Air when required;
  • Analyze cargo flows / cargo mix / consolidation benefit / GP out of Country;
  • Perform (Air carrier) DPO optimization in his / her Country;
  • Maintain and cultivate local relationships with carriers.
  • Qualifications

  • Minimum 12 years of operational air freight experience either on the forwarder or airline side
  • Minimum 12 years of operational of customs clearance air and ocean.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in people management and leadership, including recruitment, training & development, coaching, conflict and performance management
  • Work experience in a global forwarding / logistics company
  • Profound knowledge of the air freight industry
