The Guidance Counselor Engagaement Program is funded by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and administered by AMIDEAST. It aims to provide 40 Egyptian high-school guidance counselors in private, international and STEM schools with the knowledge and skills needed to support Egyptian students to apply to universities abroad.
In doing so, this program will enable more Egyptian students to pursue their studies in the U.S. This 8-day training program will take place during the summer of 2020 in two Egyptian cities : Cairo and Alexandria.
Training topics may include but are not limited to : evaluating students’ needs, U.S. admission process, understanding of the U.
S. ranking system, writing proposal statements, and preparing for admission interviews. Upon completing the training, the expert will follow up with the counselors to evaluate their learning and provide support for them as they apply the concepts covered in the training.
Tasks and Responsibilities :
Tasks and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following :
Develop training material for the guidance counselor program based on the needs and expectations of Egyptian counselors;
Meet with the EL Associate Manager to provide and receive feedback, incorporate needed adjustments, and plan for the next activities / sessions;
Attend all relevant meetings with AMIDEAST as requested whether in-person or through Zoom;
Hold a pre-workshop virtual training with all participants;
Deliver 6 days of training in Cairo and Alexandria for a total of 40 guidance counselors from Egyptian schools and 2 days of pre-training assessments and preparation;
Follow up with the counselors to evaluate their learning and provide support as they apply the concepts covered in the training; and
Maintain high level of professionalism and qualified appearance at all times.
One rough draft and a final draft of the following items to be provided to the EL Associate Manager upon request and within the designated timeframe as agreed :
Trainees Handouts + Guide
Master’s degree or PhD in a related field
10-15 years of experience as a guidance counselor in the U.S. or in the American international school system
Extensive knowledge of the U.S. college admissions process
Demonstrated professional experience as a trainer of guidance counselors providing workshops, lectures, etc.
Excellent presentation skills
Fluency in English (written + spoken)
Knowledge of Arabic preferred
Experience with the Middle East, Egypt, or Arab culture preferred
