It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all.
UN-Habitat ROAS covers all the operational activities and projects in 18 countries across the Arab Region; currently, with 13 active country programmes.
The focus of this positions is planning, development, management, promotion and coordination of normative and operational activities related to human settlements programmes in the Arab region.
This position is located at the UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States (ROAS) in Cairo, Egypt. Education An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in the field of architecture, civil engineering, urban and regional planning, sociology, economics or physical sciences relevant to development and management of human settlements is required.
A first level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Work Experience A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in human settlements or development projects and programmes, including two years of experience at the international level.
Proven experience in human settlements development fields, projects / programme design and implementation with the UN or other international agencies is desirable.
Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position fluency both oral and written English is required.
Knowledge of Arabic is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage. Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-
based interview. Special Notice Appointment against this position is for an initial period of one year and may be subject to extension.
